about

My CD originally was released a week after 9/11. Though this song had been written a few years prior, many people thought that it was about those events. It was really written on the floor of a Motel 6 in Nashville where I had been hired to install carpet. It was literally and figuratively one of the lowest points in my life. Even though it's not apparent, I find hope in this song. Sometimes just giving voice to your circumstances helps them to shift. That's certainly been the case for me many times.

lyrics

My legs hurt from walking
Dust burns my eyes, tears form
I think I'll lie down by the road
And sleep through the coming storm

I've nowhere to go
No one to cling to at night
Who will tend my sickness
See me through to the daylight

No one is safe here, no one secure
Anything can happen any time
Try to keep the dogs away and deadbolt your door
And do everything you can to keep from falling all the way

I'm looking for a wall to lean on
Searching for a place to stand
I choose between the solid rock
And the ever shifting sand

I still believe in God
But prayers seem to fall on deaf ears
I wonder where He's gone
While I'm stuck between miracles and fear
