about

Growing up in Wyoming the county fair is the biggest event of the year. You spend the year preparing for it. The weeks before are filled with anticipation. Everyone in the county shows up for it so you get to see everyone you know in one place. And when it's over there's a fleeting sadness that ebbs when you start the cycle all over again. There are a lot of parallels to young love, so there you go.

Apple Blossom is a fiddle tune that I love to play on the guitar. I don't know if there still is, but back when I was young there was a fiddle contest at the fair. Fiddle tunes and carnival music bring the smell of funnel cakes and cotton candy into immediate memory.

lyrics

Summer's gone, Winter's coming
A cold Autumn chill is hanging in the air
Fill me up with a hot cup of cider
And walk with me darlin' to the county fair

There's all kinds of geeks and freaks on the midway
I'll buy you a ticket, they're a sight to see
The boys in town are gonna see us together
And wish for a chance to be a man like me

Bring on the games
Bring on the rollercoasters
Light off some fireworks
Shoot 'em in the air
Falling in love with a woman like you
Is like taking first prize at the county fair

Elephant ears and sweet cotton candy
Carnies all barking, "won't you take a chance?"
I'll throw out my arm and twenty five dollars
For a big stuffed poodle with some fine romance

There's an auctioneer selling off cattle
In the barn past the Comet and the Tilt-a-Whirl
I'm going once, going twice, I'm gone to my limit
I sold my heart to a beautiful girl
